Don s talk will provide a roadmap of technology for Visual Studio Tools for Office. The roadmap includes a summary of the 2005 version that supports Office 2003, an introduction to "Cypress" which is the first release of the tools to support Office 2007 and a preview of the features the team is working on for the next full release of Visual Studio.
Learn how to create application-level customizations (add-ins) for many of the applications in the 2007 Office system, how to customize the look and feel of an application created with Visual Studio Tools for Microsoft Office by extending the Ribbon feature of the UI, and how to create a custom task pane with only a few lines of code.

Don is currently the Test Manager for Visual Studio Tools for Office & for Applications. He formally held the role of Development Lead for Visual Studio Tools for Office design time experience. Don is an 18 year veteran of the software industry including 5 years as a developer and project lead at Raima Corporation which build dbVista a 'C' based database system and 13 years at Microsoft where he has been a Software Design Engineer, SDE Lead, SDE Manager and Test Manager. At Microsoft he has worked on Microsoft Help, Microsoft Office Developer and Microsoft Visual Studio Tool for Office.

Visual Studio Tools for Office is a product that focuses on Office as a platform. VSTO enables professional and enterprise developers to build solutions that take advantage of the rich functionality in Office Applications. With Office 12, VSTO will ship an extension to VS 2005 that will support application level solutions for Outlook, Word, Excel, InfoPath, PowerPoint and Visio for Office 12 and Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio for Office 11.
Visual Studio Tools for Applications provides support for ISV Applications to allow their customer to extend their product via its object model with a light version of Visual Studio.
