Slaine's Multiple XBox Live Gamercard Gadget
24 April 07 06:23 | Simon Phillips | 1 comment(s)

I've created another Vista Sidebar gadget, this time to track all your XBox friends using there Gamercards

There are a few gadgets already out there but they did meet my requirements, so I quickly put one together, using the same principles I used for the World of Warcraft gadget (HTTPXMLRequest aka Ajax, Regular Exprssions, DHTML manipulation all in Javascript).

The gadget allows you to display the gamer pictures of any number of friends (within reason) in your Vista Sidebar. Clicking on a picture will pop-up that friends current Gamercard (Which then links back to the XBox.com site)

You can also select the size of the picture, which makes really configurable.

You can download the gadget from the MS Gadget site here

Slaine's World of Warcraft Realm Status Vista Gadget
18 April 07 02:08 | Simon Phillips | 2 comment(s)

Last October I started my first Vista Sidebar gadget, and got a bit stuck in getting the alpha transparencies in the popup to work correctly see My first Vista Sidebar gadget.

Due to getting a couple of emails from people to see how I was getting along with this, so I sat down and cracked on with it.

After disassembling some of the standard gadgets I found that I was going about popup bit completely the wrong way. I was trying to get this working by using IE / JavaScript fade in and fade out tricks using transitions. I found that there was a System.Gadget.Flyout object which you can set with it's own page and just call System.Gadget.Flyout.show = true; :S.

My excuse is that I know that this feature was added sometime during the vista beta realses and I'm sure it wasn't in the the version I was running at the time I started building the gadget ;).

I've publish the gadget up on the Window Live site and I'm waiting for it to be approved, but I've also posted to the NIMTUG site here
